Peggy Sherry, Somerset, KYpainting
Peggy Sherry has been painting most of her life, beginning with portraits of her friends and teachers while still a teenager. She received a BS degree in art from Western Maryland College and a teaching certificate from August College in Georgia. Since 1990 she has been living and painting in Somerset, where she is a member of the Sheltowee Artisans, the Lexington Art League and is the L.C.P.A. Visual Arts Director for the Center for Rural Development in Somerset.
Peggy works in a variety of mediums, including oil, pastel and watercolor. While primarily a realist, she enjoys combining abstract or impressionistic backgrounds with a recognizable subject. Strong contrast and dramatic light situations attract her attention for subject matter, and she has painted everything from murals, to equine portraits, to National Park landscapes and florals. Her work has been exhibited at the Elmwood Inn in Perryville, The Singletary Center in Lexington, the “Horse Mania” project in Lexington, as well as in the annual “Nude” exhibition by the Lexington Art League.
