Native Kentuckian Pat Banks became interested in watercolor in second grade when a teacher showed her some basic techniques and sponsored a showing of her work at a teachers’ conference. Pat’s fascination with watercolor, combined with her studies and travels, has given her a unique lens to interpret the world. Living in northern Madison County on a ridge overlooking the Kentucky River, Pat has established a connection to her landscape. She states, “I love water, especially the way light plays on its surface – the Kentucky River is a constant inspiration and is astonishingly beautiful.”

With most of her inspiration coming from personal experience, Pat’s work reflects her love of nature. She uses bright intense color to translate her subjects and incorporates her individual insight, spontaneous style and environmental concerns into every watercolor.

Pat has been an exchange artist in Ecuador and Japan and recently has spent time working as an artist in residence in regional schools working with students to create large colorful murals.

Pat is a juried member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists & Craftsmen, the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program, a roster artist for the Kentucky Arts Council and a consultant with ARTS Kentucky.
