Martha Puckett is a native Kentuckian and a retired art teacher from Louisville. She received her undergraduate degree in art education from Murray State University and her MA in Ceramics from the University of Louisville.

Clay has always been her first love and she quickly found porcelain with its smooth white surface, to be the perfect clay for her use. She perfected a simple pit-firing technique using minerals, saw dust and wood in a small barrel kiln she built in her back yard.

She creates simple elegant forms to showcase the graphic markings of the flames and smoke of the fire. No two pots can ever be the same. Martha has also designed a functional line of porcelain which she refers to as Dragonflies & Dots with painted blue decorations on the white porcelain.

Martha’s work has been featured on the covers of Pottery Making Illustrated and Raku, Pit & Barrel Firing Techniques and has been published in Ceramics Monthly Magazine.
